The Hubbard Street 2 Dancers from Chicago began their visit to Greensboro with

an education program on Thursday, November 12th at The Plaza Arts Center in

Eatonton which included children from Putnam County and Greensboro Elementary

Schools. The Plaza Arts Center Theater was once again filled not once but twice as

over 1,000 Greene and Putnam county school children watched and participated in

the recent OPAS Education event with the HS2 dance troupe.

The children were escorted through a dancer’s day, from warm-up, through rehearsal, then to the stage; adding music, lighting,

stage effects and costumes along the way. The experience was sprinkled with dances that are a part of the current performance

repertoire of the company allowing the children to become familiar with their contemporary, free-form style, and how this

compares to more traditional dance genres such as ballet, jazz, tap, and others that include

Later that night the rambunctious six could be found at the magnificent home of the gracious

Chicago Party’ hosts Jim and Carolyn Krause, donning feather boas and sleek fedoras and posing in

front of the vintage Mercedes provided by Todd Emily. The evening’s entertainment included a

performance by The Marty Winkler Trio as well as a brief screening of the Bears vs. 49ers game.

The menu consisted of Chicago style hot dogs with all the traditional fixings including pickles,

onions, mustard, sport peppers, celery salt, and tomatoes all piled onto a steamed sesame seed

bun. For those of us who were a little intimidated by the sight of the shockingly green relish,

authentic Lou Malnati’s deep dish Chicago style pizza served as a comforting backup.

The performance on Friday, November 13th was incredible introducing many local

patrons to this type of modern dance for the first time. The dancers performed six

selections from their repertoire, including The Restless, Gimme, First Light, and

Sight Unseen. The show was followed by a champagne reception which provided

those who attended the performance a chance to get to know the dancers of

Hubbard Street 2.

As the resilient dancers last order of business in Georgia they ventured north to

Dahlonega to put on a final performance on Sunday, November 15th for local

school children and patrons of the Holly Theatre.
