Broadway at The VILLAGE featuring Tony Award winner Debbie Gravitte and internationally renowned jazz pianist Russ Kassoff
brought a night of Broadway tunes and classic entertainment to Lake Oconee Village on
Friday, September 11th. The early afternoon showers cleared out and by show time the
weather was a perfect complement to the wonderful performance that had passerby’s
searching for an open seat on the lawn and attendees singing along with the familiar tunes.
With Russ tickling the ivories and Debbie belting out the tunes they wowed the crowds with
such classics as Memory from the Broadway classic Cats, When You’re Good to Mama from
Chicago, and Don’t Rain on My Parade from Funny Girl. A big Thank You to the members, volunteers, and everyone else who came
out and helped to make the night a success!
Debbie was first introduced to Lake area residents in July, 2007 when she joined
composer Marvin Hamlisch at the Sandy Creek Barn for the launch of the Oconee
Performing Arts Society. Fans were delighted when Debbie returned in December, 2008
for the OPAS production of Fa-la-la, Phantom and Friends at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge,
Reynolds Plantation where she brought the audience to their feet with her beautiful
performance of Memory from the Broadway show Cats.
