OPAS Welcomes New Board Chair as an Exciting Season Continues

OPAS

After four years of dedicated leadership, Margie Eddy-Forbes has completed two full terms as Board Chair of the Oconee Performing Arts Society (OPAS), passing the torch to Barry Selvidge. Her tenure has been marked by remarkable growth and artistic excellence, solidifying OPAS as the premier arts organization in the Lake Country.

"I will miss sitting at the head of the table as Chair, but they won’t get rid of me that easily—I’ll still be on the Board as Immediate Past Chair!" said Eddy-Forbes. "Barry will be a wonderful leader. He shares a deep passion for OPAS and its mission."

An entertainment attorney and accomplished pianist, Barry Selvidge now steps into the role of Board Chairman, bringing his extensive professional experience and unwavering commitment to the arts. Under his leadership, OPAS looks forward to growing its impact, offering more world-class performances, and strengthening arts education initiatives that enrich the community.

"I’m deeply honored to be elected as OPAS Chair," said Selvidge. "I look forward to working with our Board to expand opportunities that bring extraordinary performances to our community and to enhance arts education programs that create lasting, meaningful experiences for all."

As OPAS transitions into this exciting new chapter, anticipation is building for Rhapsody in Blue, an electrifying tribute to George Gershwin, set for April 25, 2025 at 7:30 PM at Festival Hall. This must-see performance promises breathtaking music and artistry featuring OPAS favorite and Tony Award-winning conductor and pianist, Stuart Malina.

The 2024-25 season ends with our most popular event, The Memorial Day Weekend Concert. In addition to some patriotic favorites, we are pleased to present Billy Joel, Elton John, & More! Featuring celebrated singer/pianist Michael Cavanaugh, this “al fresco” event, set against the stunning backdrop of The Farm at Oconee, will take place on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, May 24th.  Pack your picnic and ANY beverage, bring your family, and enjoy a stunning kick-off to the summer.

Kudos and heartfelt gratitude to our friend, Margie Eddy-Forbes!
